National Car Test (NCT)
Since the introduction of the NCT in 2000, the Road Safety Authority has made significant changes to the complexity of the test, which has led to rising failure rates in a number of motor categories. At present over 49% of cars fail the first time. (Source NCTS.ie – December 2011)
From the 1st of May new regulations have come into force:
- A five-point penalty for driving a dangerously defective vehicle.
- Five points for driving without a certificate of road worthiness.
- A three-point penalty for driving a vehicle without fixing a fault uncovered at the NCT
